Gong Mei, meaning Tribute Eyebrow, occupies the middle ground of white tea, ranked between White Peony and Shou Mei. Made from slightly larger leaves than White Peony, one bud with two or three leaves, it gives a medium-bodied cup with sweet, herbaceous notes and a lingering finish. Barely oxidized near 8 percent from Da Bai and Xiao Bai material at mid elevation, it carries a gentle caffeine around 16 milligrams. Picked in spring and early summer, it offers an approachable route into white tea with more flavor complexity than the most delicate top grades. Its slightly coarser leaf also ages well, deepening in sweetness over time.
