Tea catechins, particularly EGCG, enhance thermogenesis (calorie burning) and fat oxidation through synergy with caffeine. Green tea extract has been shown to increase 24-hour energy expenditure by 4-5% and fat oxidation by 10-16%. Oolong tea may be particularly effective due to its unique polyphenol profile. Effects are modest but consistent across studies. Tea also supports weight management through appetite regulation and gut microbiome modulation. Results are most significant in combination with exercise.
