Gushu
परिभाषा
Ancient tree — tea harvested from old-growth Camellia sinensis trees, typically over 100 years old, found primarily in Yunnan's remote forests. Gushu pu-erh is prized for depth, complexity, and aging potential.
विवरण
Gushu refers to tea trees that have grown largely untended in Yunnan's mountainous forests for a century or more, with some specimens estimated at 500-1,000 years old. These trees develop extensive root systems that penetrate deep into the subsoil, accessing mineral nutrients unavailable to younger plantation bushes. The resulting leaves tend to produce thicker, more viscous liquor with greater depth, longer-lasting aftertaste (huigan), and a distinctive cha qi — a physical sensation of warmth and energy prized by experienced drinkers. Gushu teas command significant premiums, with famous mountain sources like Lao Banzhang, Bingdao, and Yiwu each offering distinct character profiles. The gushu market has also attracted fraud, with younger plantation tea sometimes mislabeled, making trusted sourcing relationships essential.
