The tea strainer (cha lou) is placed over the fairness cup or drinking cup to catch fine tea particles and broken leaves during pouring. In gongfu service, a fine mesh strainer ensures a crystal-clear liquor. Bamboo strainers add a traditional aesthetic, while stainless steel versions offer fine filtration. Some strainers rest on a small stand between uses.
