Nilgiri tea comes from the Blue Mountains of southern India, spanning Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Grown up to 2,500 meters and plucked as one bud and two leaves, it is bright, aromatic, and medium-bodied with a distinct fruity sweetness and a clean finish. Assamica hybrids and UPASI clones, oxidized around 90 percent, are picked year-round with a peak from December to March, and carry a caffeine near 38 milligrams. A round flavor and low bitterness make it as good on its own as in iced tea and blends, where it holds clarity even when chilled. Its frost-season teas are especially prized for concentrated aroma.
