Tea polyphenols inhibit multiple inflammatory pathways including NF-κB, COX-2, and pro-inflammatory cytokines (TNF-α, IL-6). Chronic low-grade inflammation underlies many diseases of aging, and tea's broad anti-inflammatory action may explain its association with reduced risk of multiple chronic conditions. Both green and black tea demonstrate anti-inflammatory effects, though through different polyphenol profiles. Saponins in tea provide additional anti-inflammatory activity, and the effect is dose-dependent.
