Подробности

Tea blending is one of the most underappreciated skills in the tea industry. Every iconic brand — English Breakfast, Earl Grey, PG Tips, Yorkshire Gold — is a blend designed to deliver a consistent cup experience despite the inherent variability of agricultural production. A typical English Breakfast blend might combine Assam for body and malt, Kenyan for color and briskness, and Ceylon for brightness and aromatic lift. The master blender's challenge is maintaining this target profile across seasons and years as individual components fluctuate in quality and availability. Major blending houses maintain reference standards and tasting panels that evaluate dozens of incoming lots daily, adjusting proportions to compensate for variations. Blending also serves economic purposes: combining premium teas with more affordable components delivers acceptable quality at competitive prices. Flavored blends add another dimension — Earl Grey relies on bergamot oil, jasmine tea requires careful scenting with fresh blossoms, and modern blends incorporate fruits, spices, and flowers. Some specialty companies now market single-origin, unblended teas, positioning themselves as the opposite of the blending tradition. Both approaches have merit: blends offer reliability and accessibility; single origins offer terroir transparency and seasonal discovery.
