소개
Assam in northeastern India is the world's largest contiguous tea-growing region, stretching across the Brahmaputra River valley with over 800 tea estates. The indigenous Camellia sinensis var. assamica thrives in the tropical monsoon climate with up to 3,000mm of annual rainfall, producing bold, malty black teas with deep amber liquor. Second flush Assam, harvested in June during the monsoon, is considered the peak quality period, yielding the signature 'tippy' golden-tipped leaves prized for their rich, full-bodied character. Assam CTC tea forms the backbone of most commercial tea bag blends worldwide, while orthodox Assam commands premium prices among connoisseurs.
