Big Red Robe — the most famous Wuyi Mountain rock oolong, traditionally harvested from ancient mother bushes on a cliff face. Modern Da Hong Pao is produced from propagated descendants of the original six bushes.
विवरण
Da Hong Pao is the king of Wuyi yancha and one of the most storied teas in the world. Legend tells of a Ming Dynasty scholar whose mother was cured by tea from these cliff-side bushes; in gratitude, he draped his red imperial robe over the plants. The six original mother bushes, estimated at 350+ years old, cling to a rock face in the Jiulong Ke scenic area and were last harvested in 2005. Their annual yield of roughly 20 grams was priceless. Today's commercial Da Hong Pao is made from first and second-generation cuttings blended to approximate the original's character: deep roasted aroma, complex mineral body, and a long-lasting sweet aftertaste. Quality varies enormously, from commodity blends to single-origin, hand-roasted lots from skilled Wuyi producers.
