Anxi County in southern Fujian is the spiritual home of Tieguanyin, one of China's most celebrated oolong teas. The rolling hills provide ideal drainage while the subtropical climate with gentle mountain breezes creates optimal growing conditions. Modern Anxi Tieguanyin is produced in two main styles: a lightly oxidized, floral 'qingxiang' style and a more traditional, roasted 'nongxiang' style. The region's tea gardens span from 400 to 1,000 meters elevation, with higher gardens producing the most complex and aromatic leaves.
