Description

Natural surfactant compounds found in tea that create the slight foaming observed when whisking matcha or vigorously pouring tea. Tea saponins (theasaponins) are concentrated in tea seeds and flowers but are also present in leaves. They contribute a mild bitterness distinct from catechin astringency. Tea saponins have demonstrated anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties, and their surfactant nature may enhance absorption of other bioactive compounds.
